Dear Rob. We have now been to the magical Azores three times. Last year we went to Sao Miguel and flew to Faial for three days. It was in the Sea Week so it was great. We saw the Caldeira and the Capelinhos. Fantastic. This summer we would like to visit Sao Miguel(again) and another island for three days. But which one? We were thinking about Terceira or Santa Maria. Would that be a good choice? We would like to save Corvo and Flores for another time. Keep up the good work. From Soren Denmark.
Rob's Reply Hi Soren, thank you very much for asking. Either Santa Maria or Terceira would be great to visit. You can't go wrong!
There is more to see in Terceira so plan to spend a few days there (2-3 days at least). Santa Maria is much smaller so it is much easier to see in a shorter time. That said, I always suggest planning for enough time to savour the Azores experience.
Terceira is also more developed than Santa Maria. Angra is a very historic city. Santa Maria has it's share of history too, Christopher Columbus stopped there. And Santa Maria is renowned for its beaches.
Tough call Soren! I'm sure you will enjoy either island.
Regards
Rob
